The month of January has seen one of the greatest threats ever posed to the existence and functioning of internet. The threats were in the form of two US bills called SOPA, and PIPA, where SOPA stands for, Stop Online Piracy Act, and PIPA stands for Protect IP act.

The purpose of both these acts was to increase censorship, and stop piracy of copyrighted products on the internet. Although, with these intentions, but the acts almost destroy the whole concept and function of internet, especially destroying the internet for small businesses.

The major impact of these acts must have been on the business of an internet marketing firm, making it almost lose the business, and to be good for nothing. With censorship, and severe bans, no small business would wish to enter the online market, thus no internet marketing company would survive.

The major statements given by most of the major internet marketing companies revolved around the subject that the implication of these laws would not be helpful in increasing economic growth, rather they will slow it down, because the laws are not well thought out, and their cons outweigh their pros.

If these laws were implemented, then the whole concept of internet marketing would have died, because the first victim of these laws would have been social media, and with social media out there would have been no increased traffic and promotion. After social media, the victim of these laws would have been link building, where as per these acts, search engine was compelled to ban all the links of a website, if found guilty of piracy.

In short, if these bills would have been accepted and passed, it would have resulted in utter destruction of the online world.
